This site was originally developed for the New Zealand Historic Places Trust - Christchurch Branch by Fiona Clayton of VividPast and Hot Pyjama Productions Ltd.

Fiona Clayton is an Historian, Communications and Interpretation professional who has had an ongoing interest in public history and engaging with communities in life-long-learning environments.

When asked by the New Zealand Historic Places – Christchurch Branch to create a resource for young people about the Bridlepath she suggested that a website would reach more people, and cost less in the long term than a hard copy resource.

New Zealand students, teachers, families and visitors from near and far would encounter information drawn from primary material from museums, archives and libraries they might not be able to visit immediately, but would be inspired to understand their immense value in revealing our past, explaining our present, and determining our future.

With the ability for the branch to update material as time and budget allowed, a simple website would not only have the opportunity to be dynamic, it would embrace a commitment to revisionist histories of British migration to Canterbury in the mid-1800s. A Content Management System provided the empowering solution.

The design brief for the website followed on from an earlier contract she had completed for New Zealand Historic Places Trust Lyttelton Timeball Station with Hot Pyjama Productions which is located within walking distance of the start of the Bridlepath. The design for the Timeball’s new marketing collateral and the Bridlepath website captured a fresh, vibrant approach to heritage, its themes and issues.
